Health Care
We have a responsibility to our citizens to
provide them access to decent public health care. Not simply because
they are residents of Collin County, but because we chose to do away
with a public hospital many years ago.
How much of an issue is health care? A HealthCare Task Force study
showed that 20% of Collin County residents do not have health insurance.
Collin County received a $5.7 million bill from Parkland for indigent
services in 2006, and paid only $71,001 of it – imagine getting a $5,000
doctor’s bill and paying them $71.
Both my opponent and I oppose a regional Hospital Tax by the state – it
would nearly double the burden on our citizens, and cause yet more
bureaucracy in Austin. But why is the state even considering a tax that
would funnel money from the entire North Texas region into Parkland
hospitals? Because the Commissioner’s Court refuses to pay even a tenth
of the bills they rack up for indigent care. They don’t want to ‘fess up
to Parkland, and don’t want to have Austin pick their pocket.
The simple solution? Pay your bill the first time!

"Strike the nail aright boys, hit it on the head! Strike with all your might boys, while the iron's red.
When there's work to do boys, do it with a will -- those who reach the top boys, first must climb the hill.
Standing at the foot boys, Gazing at the sky. How can you get up boys, If you never try.
Though you stumble oft boys, never be downcast. Try and try again boys -- you'll succeed at last."
